Finding Accessibility Issues that Require Manual Checks on the Website

Last updated on 13 November 2024

Manual checks focus on the aspects of accessibility that automated tools cannot fully evaluate. For example, while automated tests can confirm if an image has an ‘alt text’, they cannot determine whether that alt text accurately describes the image’s context. WebYes flags these areas for your review, and this article guides you on how to locate them after a full scan.

Steps to Identify Accessibility Issues Requiring Manual Checks

From the WebYes Dashboard, click on the ‘Accessibility tab’ or on the ‘Accessibility icon’ in the side navbar as shown below. This will take you to the accessibility report after the scan. Here, you can see stats that summarise the following:

  • Overall accessibility score
  • Total and critical issue
  • It shows WCAG 2.2 criteria

In the accessibility report scan, you will see the following options on the navigation panel: ‘Dashboard’, ‘Affected pages’, ‘Issue list’, Manual checks and ‘Checklist’. Navigate to ‘Manual checks’ and click on it.

A detailed ‘Manual checks’ page will be opened as shown below. Each manual check will be categorised under the following: ‘Time-based media’, ‘Adaptable’, ‘Distinguishable’, ‘Keyboard accessible’, etc. Clicking on the ‘Show more’ link will provide you with more details on the issues.

After resolving each issue, you can click on ‘Mark as resolved’ or ‘Not applicable’ if there are no changes required. Then click on the ‘Save changes’ button to make sure that the applied changes will affect accessibility scores on the accessibility dashboard. After that, a pop-up will appear, ensuring that changes are saved and the website’s accessibility score is updated.
